Us

We are Christie and Pam, but together,

We Are The Arrows!

Although, we don’t call each other Christie and Pam – we call each other Dee and Tyde. I suppose when you have been friends for as long as we have been friends, you can’t really have normal names for each other. We both got married last year and our husbands travel everywhere with us. Sid (Christie’s husband) plays extra drums with Christie and helps make the sound MASSIVE.

Stef (Pam’s husband) jumps between bass, guitar, production and whatever else is needed really to keep us on the road. In a way, we look like the new ABBA, but minus the swinging (yuck) and the men in glitter onesies.

Who We are

Pam De Menezes

Vocals, Piano, Synth

Pam doesn’t really do the brand name thing, although one day it would be epic if Karl Lagerfeld or someone like that wanted to make her an outfit for a concert. Til then, it’s vintage hustling all the way. Pam loves to cook and mainly feeds Stef. She used to feed Christie til they both got married but now Stef is the bugger who gets all the yummy food. Pam is always writing music, even if it’s for other people to sing. She writes all kinds of styles cause she loves music so much. Otherwise, she reads British and Japanese Vogue like a fashion junkie on the beach. That’s a perfect day off for her…

Christie Desfontaine

Drums

Christie is completely infatuated with adidas Originals. She has more than 40 pairs of sneaks and about 50 jackets.

Christie writes books about Israel in her spare time. Ever the obsessor, she has gone there like 5 times already. Christie prefers Time magazine and a slab of chocolate in the shade. We both read the entire Bible through once every year.

The Arrows

Our Music

is supposed to feel like pop with some balls. It’s meant to feel organic and real, not completely digitized and squashed to smithereens. We wanted to make this album “Disaster Queen” feel like the drums were going to smack you on the head and then the voice was going to come and kiss it better. Either way, we ADORE what we created over the last 2 years, culminating in FLUX studios NYC where we recorded with wonder man, Fabrice Dupont. (New York can be super stinky, they don’t tell you that in the movies)

We Love Playing Live

We tour like machines! In 2010, we played all over the USA – in LA, NYC, Chicago, Detroit,Tampa, Washington… So many we can’t remember. Those were good times, and it was a pretty big deal for two girls from sleepy Durban, South Africa to get that right. When we got back, we basically focused on making this album which is finally ready, and we couldn’t be happier. Except if we were millionaires, then we would mos def be happier. But in terms of the happiness department, I think we doing pretty good…

Over The Years

The Arrows” have fallen off stage, fallen off drum chairs on stage, sprained ankles, torn ligaments in our thighs, thrashed our hair around as much as Metallica did in the 90′s, broken so many kick drum skins it’s absurd, done more fly kicks than any decent pair of girls should and have poured out every inch of our energy into our performances because we LOVE what we do. We love to make music that people can truly feel and truly connect with on a deeper level than just rhythm or melody… Aiming the arrow of truth straight for the spirit of anyone who listens.
